Іменники, які не використовуються в однині

Загальновідомо, що в англійській мові іменники вживаються як в однині так і в множині (якщо вони злічувані). Якщо іменники незлічувані, вони бувають тільки в однині. Наприклад, advice в англійській ніколи не вживається з закінченням -s, можна тільки сказати pieces of advice.

Але бувають ще й такі іменники, які зустрічаються виключно у множині. Найчастіше вони позначають предмет, що складається з двох частин. Тому при підрахунку таких предметів дуже добре підходить слово pair - пара: a pair of pants, two pairs of pants, three pairs of pants.

Але це не підходить для іменника clothes, і порахувати його вийде тільки так: an article of clothing, two articles of clothing. Як бачите, змінилася і сама форма слова. Після іменників, які бувають тільки у множині, дієслово теж повинне бути в формі множини: These clothes look nice.
